The NFPI Mission and How You Can Help

The Mission of NFP International
The mission of NFP International is to promote and teach Natural Family Planning. This includes ecological breastfeeding, systematic NFP, marital chastity, and the call to generosity in having children and raising them in the ways of the Lord. A secondary mission is to uphold traditional Christian teaching about love, marriage and sexuality and to provide materials that people can use to improve their spiritual lives.

We seek to accomplish this mission through this website and volunteer teachers.

Our service area is the world. At present, anyone in the world who has access to the Internet and can read English at the 10th grade level can teach themselves how to practice NFP from the on-line manual, Natural Family Planning: The Question-Answer Book. We recognize that most people prefer to learn from face to face instruction, and thus we encourage the development of networks of volunteer teachers in countries throughout the world.

The Vision statement accessible on the Home Page shows the critical need for a rebirth of chastity in Western culture and the crucial role that chaste NFP has to play in that renewal. The International Mission statement describes the NFPI efforts in Eastern Europe that still suffers the effects of decades of Communist rule.

How You Can Help
You can help these efforts in three ways:

Prayer and Fasting
God knows better than any of us the current need for a rebirth of chastity and a culture of life. Since He is all-powerful as well as all-knowing, He could perform a series of miracles that would practically force people to change their ways, and that would, of course, save us any effort. That, however, is not the way God has chosen to work. Instead, He has chosen to work through us weak human beings. He even wants us to pray for his help. He knows that time is important to us, and perhaps He wants to see if we are interested enough in his works to be willing to spend a few moments of our time to pray for extremely important conversions in individuals and in our culture.

Fasting is difficult but doesn't take any time. Concerning some evil spirits, Jesus taught that some "cannot be driven out by anything but prayer and fasting" (Mark 9:29).

Fasting and time spent in praying for a rebirth of chastity and for a stop to abortion and contraception shows that we are interested in some of the same things in which God is very interested. So please pray and fast for the work of NFP International-pro-life, pro-chastity, and pro-family.

Sharing the Information
Please share this website with others-your friends and associates, relatives and clergy. Students who are writing papers will find here information not only about the science and art of systematic NFP but also about breastfeeding, the covenant theology of sexuality, and the sexual revolution. The sections on NFP Resources and Spiritual Resources contain some materials that are not available elsewhere on the internet and other material that could be found elsewhere only with serious library research or not at all.

Giving Financial Support
Most of the work of NFPI is accomplished by volunteers. The hosts of this website are volunteers, and almost all the teaching we sponsor in Eastern Europe is done by volunteer teaching couples. Work done by volunteers means that you get a much bigger bang for your buck than when everything is done by paid staff.

Even volunteers, however, need the backup of professionals and some full-time staff. In Slovakia, we are funding the salary of one full-time professional (and family man with five children) who recruits and trains additional volunteer teachers. He also promotes the general concept of NFP at meetings all around the country, tries to get bishops and priests to do more to promote chastity and natural family planning, and maintains a Slovak website.

At our home base in Cincinnati, we have to outsource website improvement to professionals, and we have to pay for advertising, printing, and other ways to attract people to learn at this website. Our hope in all of this is that through this website and volunteer teachers we will be able to educate the skeptics, confirm the faithful, and help those who need a chaste and holy way to space their babies. We do all of this with minimum costs.
